After Kolkata, Airtel Brings 4G To Bangalore

After launching India's first 4G service in Kolkata last month, telecom operator Bharti Airtel has today launched it in Bangalore, India's IT hub.

The company has introduced a 30GB pack priced at Rs 2,999 (for heavy data users) in addition to the existing plans that were introduced in Kolkata. Also, as part of an introductory offer, customers subscribing to 4G services will be given a cashback for the CPE/dongle with Rs 1,999 and Rs 2,999 plans, which basically means that the device will become free of cost.

Airtel has also introduced 'Smartbytes' for 4G, which are basically purchasable add on packs that enable customers to continue using 4G even after exhausting their monthly data limits.

Customers will also get to view 10 movie titles free for the first month, after which, movie buffs can pay a monthly subscription of Rs 149 and watch unlimited movies. As of now, the company's catalogue includes 35 movies, but the company says it will add new movies to this list.

Sanjay Kapoor, CEO, India and South Asia, Bharti Airtel, said "As seen the world over, the total data usage is exploding and is doubling each year to grow to nearly 3.6 hexabytes by 2014. With the launch of 4G, India will move from being a follower in technology to matching the world in this domain."

Bangalore has now become the second city in India to have access to 4G LTE technology. In 2010, Airtel had bid for BWA license spectrum in Kolkata, Karnataka, Punjab and Maharashtra (excluding Mumbai) circles.
