Telecom service provider Reliance Communications, has partnered Google to promote Android devices in India over its network for the next two years. Through this collaboration, the telco will market the Android mobile operating system and Google Mobile Services along with specific data plans, operator billing, dedicated customer care and an Android experience zone at Reliance retail outlets across the country.

To begin with Reliance is offering free data usage of upto 1GB for Android users on 3G network. Google has made such collaboration in other markets like USA, Japan and Australia and with Reliance it does get a pan-India campaign going. RCom is the second largest telecom operator in the country behind Bharti Airtel with over 152 million users (of which around two third are said to be active as per TRAI report).

As part of its promotions for Android devices, the homepage of RCom website now shows the Android bot colouring itself blue (taking the colour of RCom brand). For Google, this partnership could extend its early adoption lead for smartphone users in India as compared to Apple's iOS platform. For RCom the deal could boost data consumption and thereby non voice revenues.
