Arun Sirdeshmukh, CEO of Reliance Trends, the apparel, luggage and accessories division of Reliance Retail, has put in his papers in the company to start his own e-commerce venture.

Confirming the news to Techcircle.in, Sirdeshmukh said, "Considering my experience in the fashion segment of more than two decades, I will surely foray into something dealing with fashion."

There are a bunch of fashion and lifestyle related e-com sites in the country including fashionandyou.comfreecultr.commyntra.com among others. So the proposed venture would need to differentiate in terms of user experience to gain traction in a cluttered market.

Earlier in the day, a report in Economics Times said he is also in talks with venture capitalists like Lightspeed and Helion Venture Partners to raise funds for his upcoming venture.

An alumnus of Indian Institute of Management( Calcutta), Sirdeshmukh started his career at Madura Garments in 1990 where he spent eight years before moving to IBM Global Services for a short stint. He then moved on to Indus League Clothing where he was the marketing head. Indus League was acquired by Future Group in 2005.

This comes as yet another industry executive leaving a job to start an e-commerce venture. Recently, Rohit Sharma, CEO (Digital) For Reliance Entertainment, along with Vaibhav Odhekar, ex vice President of Zapak Digital Entertainment Limited and Sanjeev Singhal, CTO, Reliance Entertainment (BigFlix) quit the company to launched children-focused e-commerce startup Wopshop.com which currently offers deals on toys and plans to expand into stationery, home entertainment and publishing.
