LinkedIn Strengthens Its Security; Launches Local Hiring Solutions

Professional networking site LinkedIn has started supporting 'https' for browsing experience.  The company has announced the development in an official blog post.

Currently an 'opt in' feature, LinkedIn will be roll out this feature for all LinkedIn members in the next few weeks. The move comes in as a key step to enhance the security for all, especially for those who using public networks such as open WiFi hotspots.

To turn on https one first needs to go to settings, then account , followed by manage security setting, then check the box and save changes (One may be asked to login before accessing the settings page).

The member can also turn off https by clearing the checkbox. On this settings page one will also see a link to the https FAQ with more information about this feature.

After turning https on, the user will notice the 'https' on the browser address bar whenever he/she is logged into www.linkedin.com.

On another development, the professional networking site has introduced localised hiring solutions to be used by recruitment professionals in India. The announcement for a local talent pipeline was made in October last year. The move will allow recruiters in India, reach potential candidates and drive the growth of the local talent economy.

Specifically for India, LinkedIn India is rolling out localised versions with India pricing for offerings like LinkedIn Recruiter, which will allow Indian recruiters to search and target profiles in India. Other offerings with differentiated India pricing include Jobs Network, Work with us Ads, Targeted Recruitment Ads and Talent Direct.

"Our member base which consists of educated and engaged professionals, are much sought after by recruiters from corporations and executive search firms. By creating localized products for recruiters in India, we hope to build on our philosophy of connecting talent with opportunity," said Irfan Abdulla, head, hiring solutions, LinkedIn India.

In India, LinkedIn Hiring Solutions are used by a number of companies including ING Vysya, Genpact, Biocon, Wal-Mart , HCL Technologies, L&T Infotech to name a few.

Last December, LinkedIn India crossed the 13 million members mark, with Indians forming the second largest user base for LinkedIn in the world (behind USA).
