Entertainment ticketing portal Bookmyshow has launched an app for Windows Phone users to get information about movie, synopsis, reviews and also bookings.

Right now, the application is offering movie ticketing for theatres across India and eventually it would be upgraded to book tickets for plays, concerts and sporting events as well which are otherwise available on the website.

The app can be downloaded free of cost from any Windows Market Place or App Store.

With a download size of less than 1 mb, it is compatible with any Windows Phone 7.5 or higher versions. As of now, Nokia, HTC and Samsung are the three handset manufacturers that have mobile phones running on the Windows Phone 7.5 OS so the new app will broaden the reach of the ticket booking site beyond its existing mobile users such as those on Blackberry and Android OS based handsets.

The menu list gives users, an option of movies, art & theatre, sports & events. Upon selection of the option, one can browse through movie options, show timings, theatre and seating categories.

The app supports multiple secure payment options like credit cards, debit cards, netbanking, and Bookmyshow gift vouchers. Post the payment, the user receives an SMS confirming the booking details. We haven't personally tried the app, so can't be sure if the current offers on various credit cards for free or discounted ticketing is valid in the app as well.

Ashish Hemrajani, founder and chief executive officer of Bookmyshow.com said, "After Facebook, Blackberry and Android applications, we had commenced designing the Windows phone app. Our planning started right from the time we heard the news of the phones; hence, we were ready with our app as soon as Windows phone is being made available in the Indian market. It took us about 2 months to design and develop the app and about a week or so for market place approval."
