Micro-blogging site Twitter has reached a mark of 100 million active users who use the internet from desktop, notebook or their mobile.

Twitter's chief executive officer Dick Costolo said that more than half its users are using the mobile platform to check their Twitter account. He added that 400 million visitors are registering for the service every month and out of which 40 per cent access the service to read content only and do not post their own content.

Twitter began five years ago, when @jack sent the first tweet to his seven followers.
