RCOM Q1 Net Profit Falls 37.4% Year-On-Year; Dips 6.6% Q-On-Q

Reliance Communications’ consolidated net profit fell 37.4 per cent, from Rs 250.89 crore in Q1 FY11 to Rs 157 crore for the quarter ended June, 2011.

Consolidated net income from operations has fallen 15.38 per cent annually and 38.4 per cent sequentially to Rs 4,849 crore in the quarter. Reliance has cut down its total expenditure from Rs 4,442 crore in the quarter ended June, 2010, to Rs 4,314 crore in the June, 2011, quarter. EBITDA is down to Rs 1602.1 crore from Rs 4122 crore in the previous quarter and EBITDA margins are at 32.4 per cent.

Last week, RCOM became the first telco to launch an android tablet called Reliance 3G Tab, priced at Rs 12,999. The 7 inch tablet (http://techcircle.vccircle.com/500/r-com-launches-cheapest-3g-tablet-for-rs-12999/) sports a TFT-LCD WVGA capacitive touchscreen display and is powered by the android 2.3 operating system, with an 800 Mhz CPU.

RCOM has now reached 143.26 million wireless connections, having added 7.5 million connections in the quarter, as compared to 10 million in the previous quarter. ARPU for the telecom operator has fallen from Rs 107 to Rs 103 and the wireless minutes of use per customer per month has also fallen from 241 to 233 minutes. NetConnect broadband is currently available in 800 cities. And its DTH service Reliance Digital TV has touched 3.7 million subscribers, as the company claims 11 per cent share of the DTH market in India.

The telco has reported 10.79 per cent fall in standalone revenue, from Rs 3,178 crore to Rs 2,835 crore on an annual basis, for the quarter ended June, 2011. Net loss has also reduced 44.6 per cent to Rs 272 crore, from Rs 491 crore.

Net profit from its wireless division fell to Rs 631 crore on revenues that rose to Rs 4,326.7 crore, thus representing 3 per cent quarter-on-quarter growth. Net revenue from the global enterprise division has also fallen 62.5 per cent to Rs 1,663.6 crore. The wireless segment (mobile for consumers and corporate customers, fixed wireless, value-added services, wireless multimedia and wireless Internet access services) contributed 63 per cent to the company’s overall revenue while the global enterprise (global ethernet services such as enterprise, IT infrastructure, as well as voice, video and data network services) saw a fall in contribution to 33 per cent, from 46 per cent in the previous quarter.

RCOM added 2,000 access lines, half of which had been added in the previous quarter. While total international long-distance minutes on its network (including transit minutes and global calling card minutes) have risen to 5,019 million, total national long-distance minutes (all ILD minutes originating or terminating in India) have fallen to 16,264.
