EdServ Ties Up With Blackberry; Raising Upto $35M For Expansion

Chennai- based education support services company EdServ has tied up with smartphone maker Research In Motion Inc to provide educational content through HumThum apps on Blackberry's handsets. This is in addition to the earlier tie up with Samsung.

"Through this tie-up with Blackberry, we will provide the entire online education content that includes tuition, academics, skill development and test prep services on the Blackberry smartphone," S Giridharan, chairman and CEO, EdServ said in media statement.

EdServ had also recently signed up with CAClubIndia, to capture online a large share of the CA student base, and with IL&FS Education to aggressively step into K-12 Schools students.

"Going forward, our educational content delivered through mobile smartphones worldwide will be a key growth driver for EdServ. We are also focused to take worldwide our K-12 learning solutions along with the International TestPrep and online certifications," said Giridharan.

EdServ is also in the process of raising up to $35 million through a global depository receipt(GDR) issue to fund its expansion plans. The firm has plans to expand its eLearning presence, to overseas markets, that includes Schools (K-12), CA, International Test Preps, IT Skill and Personality skill training.

The entire fund raising process is expected to be completed within the next fortnight.

"The current expansion entails investment in pan India growth to promote our flagship product www.lampsglow.com as well as the recently launched mobile learning services. The funds will be utilised for infrastructure expansion, investment into an additional 160 Schools, increasing access to mobile and TV offerings, enhancement of IT systems and brand promotion and development," Giridharan said.
