Bhaskar Das Is New BCCL President

Bhaskar Das, executive president of Bennett, Coleman and Company Ltd (BCCL) and head of its revenue division, will be the new president of the company.

This may be part of the group's business review plans, announced recently when news reports stated the company could be selling its UK based radio station Absolute Radio.

Das's stint in BCCL began as a management trainee in 1980. His milestones as he sees it start with being appointed Head of the Advertising & Sales Department in Gujarat, taking over as sales head for Eastern Region in Kolkata and in 1986 becoming the Profit Centre Head for East region for BCCL. In 1990, he was also appointed Profit Centre Head of Gujarat and took over as Director of the Western Zone of Response (Ad sales) in 1995. He became the Executive President of BCCL in 2005.

He is also the brand custodian of the group's business daily The Economic Times and involved in its overall management including content, pricing, promotion & distribution. His Linkedin profile is here.

BCCL has appointed Arunava Das Sharma to fill the position vacated by Sharma. Sharma was previously in Whirpool and will now be reporting in to Das, as reported by afaqs media.

Bhaskar Das is a member of the Management Committee of BCCL and a board member of ZOOM Entertainment Network Pvt Ltd, Times Guaranty Ltd, Optimal Media Solutions Ltd, World Wide Media (a BCCL-BBC joint venture company marketing the group's magazines) and Vijayanad Printers Ltd. He is also active in industry bodies Media Research Users' Council and The Ad Club.

Bhaskar Das has a Ph. D. in Media Management from Pune University and an MBA in Marketing from Kolkata University as well as a MA in International Relations from Jadavpur University.
